| | | | | | | | Tarompet The tarompet is a Sundanese double-reed instrument. In Sumatra and Malaysia it is known as the serunai. It sounds similar to the clarinet and the oboe, only harsher and rougher. It has six finger-holes and can attain the same pitch as the suling. In Western Java it is normally played to accompany pencat dance when silat, a form of martial art, is being performed. Its striking feature is the way it is played by circular breathing, a technique which allows the performer to produce long continuous notes without pauses. back | | | | | | |
