From Lebanon to Vienna
8 p.m. | Thursday, 22 January 2004
This concert focuses on improvised experimental music, revealing the surprising links between traditional Arab musical performance, experimental Western aesthetics and electronically based sampling.
Motivated by his interest in Arab music and the phenomenon of micro-tonality, trumpeter and composer Franz Hautzinger (Vienna and Berlin), has worked a lot with musicians from the Middle East over the past few years. For the transonic concert he has put together an ensemble comprising the Lebanese trumpeter Mazen Kerbaj and guitarist Sharif Sehnaoui, as well as the Austrian electronic musician and sampler Helge Hinteregger.
