From Argentina
8 p.m. | Friday, 23 January 2004
At this concert, American clarinettist and composer Guillermo Gregorio will be presenting a number of recent works for small formations and also premiere a work for a large ensemble. The programme will include piano music by Argentinean composer Mauricio Kagel. This concert invites audiences to discover for themselves the musical worlds of two Argentinean composers who have left their home country to work in other parts of the world.

Clarinettist and alto saxophonist Guillermo Gregorio was born in Buenos Aires during the nineteen-forties and came to Europe in the mid-eighties. He subsequently moved to the USA, where he has been living ever since. Mauricio Kagel, the son of Russian emigrants, was born in Buenos Aires in 1931. He is now considered one of the most important contemporary musicians around.
His musical and compositional interests range from music theatre to self-referential pieces (music about music) and radio dramas with a musical focus.
