In 1999, Herbert Krill made the documentary film "Along the Silk Road" for the German television channels ZDF and ARTE. His film examines the development of cinema in Central Asia over the past ten years.
Krill spent three weeks in the Central Asian cities of Almaty, Bishkek, Tashkent, Khodzhent and Ashgabad, interviewing directors and actors. Incorporating cuts and reports from directors there, his documentary offers insights into a region barely known here in Germany and into its film industry, which is gradually establishing itself on the international film scene.
