Gumarang Sakti, Danceperformance |
Boi Sakti learned dance and the martial art of silat from his mother Guismiati Suid, who left her home in Sumatra to create a new dance form in Jakarta. The fusion of a martial arts form with contemporary choreography is unique, as is the transferal of a physical technique that is passed down the female line to a male dancer. The piece Di Jalan Tua describes work in a dried-up rice field, a complex metaphor for the current situation in Indonesia.
