Elias Khoury is one of the most important contemporary authors in Lebanon and the Arabic world. Editor of the cultural section of the renowned daily newspaper an-Nahar, he belongs to the core of Beirut's intellectual scene; as a critical journalist and essayist he is committed to the self-critical and socially critical examination of Lebanon's civil war past and to freedom of speech and the press. He is devoted to the rights of the Palestinians, on whose side he fought in Beirut against the Israeli occupation and the Christian militia. Along with Rabih Mroué he will take part in a discussion following her play "Three Posters", which thematises resistance and martyrdom in Lebanon.
