"Inglan is a bitch" - News about the social unrest in Brixton, and racist attacks and appeals for tolerance are the themes of the great Dub Poet Linton Kwesi Johnson. LKJ, the Jamaican singer and poet, who has lived in London since his youth, has generally given solo performances during the past few years. At the House of World Cultures, audiences will have an opportunity to see and hear him with his own big Reggae-Formation. Through his own label and music publishers LKJ Records and LKJ Music, Linton Kwesi Johnson has also supported talented young Black fellow-musicians who have a decidedly political message - like the Jamaican woman singer Jean Binta Breeze. Last year, Linton Kwesi Johnson helped to initiate "Poets Against War" (among other things) at London's Bloomsbury Theatre. He is actively involved in a number of different organisations devoted to improving relations between Londoners of various origins, nationalities and religions, especially in those that are trying to help Black youths gain an education as well as improve their self-esteem and their prospects. He has become personally involved in helping the victims of racist attacks to obtain financial support and legal assistance. He has given countless readings and concerts in the USA, the Caribbean and Europe.
