This is a gangster film, in the spirit of Coppola and Scorsese: Satya arrives, like a myriad others, at the Victoria terminus, the mass portal for Bombay. He is beaten, knifed, jailed
and he finds a friend, Bhiku. A gangster ruled entirely by emotions, finds a partner who is like cold steel. There are wives, girlfriends, allies, enemies, bosses and, of course, the police - Through these two, and the armature of the gangster film, Varma fashions a new language for the Bombay cinema, and, through the cinema, a mode of apprehending and making sense of the contemporary.
