"Egyptian film is dying - and 60 millions of Egyptians dream of becoming actors ... All is not yet lost." Yousry Nasrallah while filming El Medina

Ali earns a living at his father's vegetable stand in Cairo. But his great passion is the theater, and on the side he tries his hand at acting. When the family loses its livelihood, Ali goes to Paris to try his luck as an actor, but ends up as a boxer. In his film Yousry Nasrallah makes "no concessions to exoticism. Not the least of his strengths is that his reflections on identity - acting, authenticity, gender roles and sexuality - are many-layered, but never misleading, dishonest, prudish or evasive", writes "Le Figaro".
