Fa'afafine Cabaret
|
Fashion Show, Talkshow, Transgender Performance - very sensual, six Fa'afafine celebrate the spirit of the Polynesian goddess. The Fa'afafine - literally translated 'like a woman' - are the traditional third sex in Samoa and today a dynamic component of the Pacific transgender community. The Island Diva's present a mixture of Polynesian dance, theatre, body adornment, and multimedia in which nothing is what it seems. Christianity, colonialism, and South Pacific images á la Gauguin are translated into new images, into the language of the 'faleaitu' - Pacific satire, in which everything has a double meaning. The 'happy natives' from the former German colony, for whom 'life is a party', present a celebration on their own terms.
