Taghi cultivates a passion for what he sees as the only way of forgetting the hard and dismal everyday life of a solider: He takes his little cassette recorder with him and secretly records snippets of conversations on the streets of Tehran. He plays them back to his comrades at night. The soldiers are particularly fascinated by the voice of a young woman.
