Juan Mora Catlett offers a sophisticated historical look into the past, the first attempt to find an adequate film aesthetic for the lost world of the Aztecs, a world which left behind few reliable records. The story is set in the 15th century, before the Spanish conquest; two messengers from the ruler Moctezuma set out on a quest to Aztlán, the Aztecs mythical place of origin, to seek aid in a devastating drought. Catlett filmed in the Nahuatl language.
