Bela Bartok meets The Clash, King Tubby and the Gypsy Kings in the Asian Underground of Transylvanian? Startling as these comparisons may sound, they reflect the eclectic heart of this sound collective: music whose texture is influenced by Eastern European and Indian music as well as by old shellac records from the Habsburg era or dubsounds from London.
In combination with its eloquent position against racism, homophobia and restrictions on personal freedoms, Anima Sound System has long since passed beyond the borders of the Hungarian club scene.
