About Beauty – the Opening

About Beauty , About Beauty - Exhibition programme , About Beauty - Beauty Politics , About Beauty - Translating Acts , About Beauty - Am I beautiful?

Thursday, March 17, 7.30 p.m.
The project "About Beauty" will be opened with a selection from the programme and speeches by invited guests. By the middle of May it presents a major contemporary art exhibition, a performing arts programme, various themed interdisciplinary projects, an international conference and a youth programme.

Curators Wu Hung, Ackbar Abbas and the conductor Kent Nagano explain their view of beauty in the contemporary, the Beijing Modern Dance Company performs an excerpt from their successful piece "Jue", and the Deutsche Symphonie Orchester with Vanessa Barkowski (Canto) and Sebastian Stoerner (Piano) play compositions by Salvatore Sciarrino, Arnold Schoenberg, and Isang Yung. The evening will conclude with dance music in the restaurant by the DJ Set Banzai Kids.

On Friday, March 18, and Saturday, March 19 the Beijing Modern Dance Company presents "Jue - Awakening": Mother and daughter - and two masterly concepts of beauty: the one drawing on the knowledge of a centuries-old Chinese canon of forms, the other living on a process of radical renewal, on emancipation from given dominance.
At the weekend numerous guided tours and panel discussions with the artists take place.

About Beauty is supported by Hauptstadtkulturfonds. From March 17 to April 23 the official partner of About Beauty, 3sat, broadcasts programmes ("Foyer", "delta", "nano", "denkmal" and "Kulturzeit") devoted to the topic Beauty.
On March 22 Kulturradio arranges a Radio Day around the topic Beauty: From 6 a.m. they report on guided tours, discussions and internet projects, live from the House of World Cultures.
