The BERLINALE TALENT CAMPUS will take place in the House of World Cultures from February 10 – 14, 2003 in co-operation with the Filmboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the U.K. Film Council. With the Campus the Berlinale is offering young talents a forum of its own for the first time. Here film students, young scriptwriters, directors and camera men from throughout the world meet established professionals and take part in a week-long winter academy focused on essential aspects of filmmaking.

“The BERLINALE TALENT CAMPUS offers the young film world the opportunity to get a realistic impression of the film business, to reflect on their future occupation and to discuss ethical aspects of filmmaking too. It’s not just about making films, but also about the acceptance and communication between different cultures and forms of filmmaking, or “Towards Tolerance”, the Berlinale 2003 slogan.” (Dieter Kosslick, Director of the Berlin International Film Festival)
The renowned director Wim Wenders and the production designer Ken Adam are among the hosts of the BERLINALE TALENT CAMPUS. Together with Lia van Leer, founder and director of the Jerusalem Cinematheque and the Israel Film Archives, Wenders and Adam accompany a five-day programme on the most important aspects of filmmaking. Further professionals, like film critic Peter Cowie and author Alessandro Baricco, will also take part in the Campus.
The prospect of not only meeting numerous international colleagues, but also established filmmakers, has already led to hundreds of applications from more than 50 countries. A first glance at the applicants’ interests gives a good impression of the variety that will be represented on the Campus: Questions regarding the influence of digital technology and new ways to tell stories, as well as different forms of teamwork will be raised. Naturally the filmmakers’ differing lifestyles form their experiences and will lead to interesting discussions.
The workshops and seminars at the BERLINALE TALENT CAMPUS will take place in the House of World Cultures. The meeting point for young talents in the Campus Lounge will be open to all accredited Berlinale visitors. Individual events like film showings followed by discussions with the filmmakers or evening film series are also open to the public.
