The seal has been set on the first long-term co-operation agreement between a German and a Chinese cultural institution: Hans-Georg Knopp, manager of the House of World Cultures, and Wang Jianqi, director of the Millennium Art Museum in Beijing, signed a partnership agreement in Beijing on May 19, 2004. With their international networking, the House of World Cultures, as one of the federal cultural institutions in Berlin, and the Millennium Art Museum, as the hub of cultural exchanges in China, are perfect partners when it comes to breaking new ground in international culture work, says Knopp. They reached a continuous co-operation agreement that will not only allow for joint projects, but also a continual exchange of staff, information, and co-operation on fundraising. From now on, representatives of both partner organizations will be represented on the program council of both institutions. The exchange started long before the contract was even signed. The two interdisciplinary projects conceived by the House of World Cultures, the "Black Atlantic" and "About Beauty", will be adapted for Chinese audiences after they have been presented in Berlin in autumn 2004 and will be shown in Beijing in spring 2005. Further close co-operation is envisaged for the international network artist database culturebase.net, which was initiated by the House of World Cultures in conjunction with three other European cultural institutions.
