transonic

In transonic the House of World Cultures pursues its central mission: to promote dialogue between non-European and Western cultures. It is one of the new projects in the border zone between cultures and genres: the performing arts festival In Transit, the Transmediale, and the new Talent Campus in cooperation with the Berlinale. And the Backroom, successfully run since 1998 by the jazz guitarist Jean-Paul Bourelly, not to mention Innovative Music Meeting. transonic is the new production forum for current developments in the music scene: a field of experimentation without any adherence to categories such as New Music, jazz or world music. Musicians such as Gene Coleman, Liu Sola and Yoshihide Otomo call traditions and the hegemony of a universalist Western avant-garde radically into question.
